BELGRADE, April 10 (Xinhua) -- China lost to Spain 5-3 in their opening match of the 2019 IHHF ice hockey men's World Championships Division II on Tuesday.
China is pooled in Group A with Spain, Belgium, Australia, Croatia and hosts Serbia.
Spain, who is five places lower than China on IHHF world rankings, took the lead through Alejandro Carbonell before Li Hang leveled the score. Patrick Fuentes helped Spain regain the lead in the first period but Yang Mingxi equalised for China at the start of the second period.
Imanol Lasuen gave Spain a 3-2 lead heading into the third, but Zhang Hao evened it up for China. However, Bruno Baldris made it 4-3 for Spain before Oriol Rubio sealed the victory as China played the final two minutes without any goalkeeper.
In Tuesday's two other games, Belgium edged Australia 4-3, while Serbia beat Croatia 3-1.
